How to Protect Yourself From Text Scams & Google Tracking Your Daily Movements

Chicago, Illinois, September 2021 – On Tuesday, September 28, 2021, Jeff Borello, co-founder and CEO of Andromeda Technology Solutions, was invited to share his knowledge with Anna Davlantes and the Chicagoland area on WGN radio Tech Tuesday interview.

Tech Tuesday is a weekly series on WGN dedicated to sharing tech information and cybersecurity education.

Jeff started off with a story about a scam that could cost an everyday person thousands of dollars in a matter of minutes – his advice, “if a bank or company texts/calls/emails you. Don’t click on any links or call the numbers in any messages sent, those could be fake or a scam. Instead, look up the contact info you need on your own and then make the call to verify info.”

His next topic was one Anna Davlantes showed a lot of interest in, and that was Google Maps and your location data. Jeff explained that if you have Google Location services turned on, your phone and Google may be tracking and logging every movement you make. He covered how it works, and how you can turn this tracking off as well.
